Moviehole says Goodbye to TV's Angel
Posted on Wed, 19-May-2004

Sniffle. Sniffle. Boo Hoo. Wolfram and Hart is only hours away from closing
its doors. How about just one last cup of Joe before you push us out the
laundry shute? No?

And it's like this folks. Tomorrow's night's episode of "Angel" is going to
be the last you'll see of the big guy for quite some time - if not forever,
according to a source at livejournal.

"No, really, there won't (be any more Angel). There are, currently, no plans
for any more Angel anything after tomorrow night. The WB has no plans to
make a TV movie. No studio has offered to make a feature film. Joss' plans
for the next year are Serenity and Astonishing X-Men. Not Angel. It's. Over.
Pass it on", says reliable source, persephonemoon.

Joss Whedon, creator of the well-liked, recently staked show, sounds a
little more sanguine though, and after all - he's the one who should know
whether there's any chance Angel, Wes, Gunn, and company will return.
Talking to The Boston Herald, Whedon said `"I don't think of the universe
itself as having gone away at all. I've been talking with Dark Horse about
rebooting the `Buffy' comic. . . . And then, of course, we talk about the
possibility of future spinoffs (and) TV movies. None of those things are
definite, none of those things are in the works right now, but I just don't
believe the Buffyverse is dead. I would like to see it come back if I have
the manpower to make it. If I have the actors that I love who are enthused
to do it, if I have the writers that I need who are prepared to do it. What
I don't want to do is do it for the sake of doing it."

And what of rumours this last episode ends with a cliffhanger? Not so,
according to Whedon. "I do not think of it as a cliffhanger at all. It is
not the end of all things. It is not a final grace note after a symphony,
the way Buffy was. We are definitely still in the thick of it, but it is,
and was meant to be, a final statement about Angel. ... The point of the
show is, you're never done. Whoever survives the show, to get that point,
will embody it, but no matter who goes on, the fight goes on."

Meanwhile, Andy Hallett has left this touching little goodbye letter on his
official site for you fans.

"I appreciate the tremendous amount of support, dedication, and the
astounding loyalty shown over and over by all the viewers. I never dreamt
that people would follow the show so faithfully and voice their opinions
loud and clear! It really turned into a great big family.

I'll never forget the first appearance I made outside of the show, of course
without make-up on. I was nervous as hell and kept telling my agent Pat that
it was going to be a big embarrassing flop because no one would show up. I
remember saying that I was going to feel like a vacuum cleaner salesman just
sitting at a booth with people glancing at me thinking, "who the hell is
this idiot?" (not that vacuum cleaner salesmen are idiots...but you know
what I mean...)

Well, thanks to you guys I was wrong and there was an outpouring of support
from so many people who just wanted to stop by and say "hi." It was one of
the most amazing experiences of my life and I'll never forget it.

So thank you all for a truly amazing ride over the last four years and for
all the wonderful compliments, letters, and gifts... especially the ones
that people created themselves. I have quite a collection of "Lorne Art" at
home in my office...it's turned into a little gallery!

I want you all to know how much your good energy, inspirational notes, and
positive thoughts guided me through it all. (Thank God I played a character
that most of you liked...I've read lots of feedback about those you don't
care for too much! Holy $%#@! I'm glad I'm on your good side. HA! ) Just
kidding.

But thanks again from every ounce of my soul, this would never have worked
without you guys! I hope to see you soon, and I hope to be seen soon, just
sans green! (No offense Dayne Johnson!!) Oh, and the big finale is quite a
show..."

And finally, what's a news item on the final episode of "Angel" without a
goodbye from it's 165th biggest fan: yours truly.

I was in Indonesia when "Buffy" first started, so I'd missed most of the
season one episodes anyway - and to tell you the truth, I couldn't have
cared less about it. A couple of girlie's pushed me into watching a couple
of episodes about a year later though, about half-way through the second
season, and like blu-tac seems to do to a tile floor - I was glued to the
screen from then on -

By the time the spin-off hit the air, I was well and truly hooked on Whedons
' wonderful world of vamps, ghouls, serpent mayors and werewolves, so it
wasn't a chore at all to tune in to that premiere episode.

I remember where I was too. I was actually in hospital. It was a Tuesday
night. Back then, "Angel" was actually airing at a reasonable time (9:30 pm
I believe?), so my fledging eyelids were still 'just' up. And I was in. Back
then, it wasn't quite as addictive as "Buffy" was at the time (having just
finished its third season), but it was still 'bring you back for more'
telly. And did it ever, for five seasons I made sure that I wouldn't miss a
darn episode of that baby. Some say it was my obsession with Charisma
Carpenter's ever-expanding bustline, others say I got a kick out of the
jazzy opening theme and wanted to thrash my head to it whilst trying not to
spill a drop out of my brewskie.I say it was simply because it was quality
television. Scratch that - is quality television. We do have one more
episode to go after all.

Until we meet again blood-gurglers, may you use the heads of the senior
partners as pillows and use Cordy's old Bra's to make a flying fox to zip
from building to building.

Goodbye "Angel".

P.S - Funnily enough, I'm about to marry one of the lasses who roped me into
watching the show. So it's her fault I'm all this way over a show. Brings
back memories of "Silver Spoons" ending.but that's another tale.

This group has nothing to do with the "Buffy Universe". This group is for
"Dark Angel"
which starred Jessica Alba as a bioengineered super soldier that had escaped
from
a secret government facility and was living in a sort of post apocalyptic
world.
